Why equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) matters
Our people and our members are drawn from hundreds of backgrounds, cultures and countries. That’s why we believe equality, diversity and inclusion are vital.
Join MPS and you’ll find a culture where colleagues feel they belong – because isn’t that what everyone is looking for? Feeling like you fit in makes every day better.
Our people should reflect the diversity of the members we exist to support. As a global employer supporting healthcare professionals around the world, it’s critical we focus on creating an inclusive workplace and welcoming culture. These are fundamental elements for us in building awareness of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI).
Going to work knowing you’ll be treated with respect, valued and included will allow you to reach your full potential. That’s what we’re striving for.
Cementing this commitment, global belonging is one of five priorities in our organisational strategy. Our colleagues may be spread out around the globe, but they remain connected to one another and to our purpose.
EDI for and by colleagues
EDI should driven by employees to inform any organisation’s choices and that’s why colleagues run our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Forum here at MPS. It helps us to be better at listening, learning and engaging with people from diverse backgrounds, so everyone can benefit from the richness of thought, experience and skill we have in our people.
The forum brings together colleagues from around the world to have open and respectful discussions on EDI, strengthening our culture of respect and equality for all. Members contribute their own ideas, experiences, and learning as well as best practise, with the aim of continuously developing a diverse and inclusive workplace.
It has also been instrumental in:
- Creating our EDI strategy
- Introducing the Halo Black Hair Code
- Enabling colleagues to choose to work public holidays, swapping the day off to an alternative one that’s more meaningful to them
- Participating in community events such as Leeds Pride
- Building awareness of and support for invisible disabilities
- Becoming a Menopause Friendly Workplace
